Newark, New Jersey. MONIER LAW Personal Injury Attorney, Phil Monier, obtained $160,000 to settle the lawsuit that the firm filed in the United States District Court of New Jersey, Newark. The lawsuit was brought to obtain compensation for a Long Island man who slipped and fell on icy conditions existing in a New Jersey parking lot. The man suffered injuries to his left wrist. The Defendants named in the lawsuit included major retail store operators, as well as the owners of the property and the snow and ice maintenance company. The lawyers for the store operators argued that either they did not have a responsibility to inspect for and eliminate icy conditions or that the accident was partially the fault of the shopper. “In addition to medical experts, we intended to call an expert meteorologist who would have testified regarding the negligent manner in which the snow was piled in huge mountains and how the run-off water froze at night after the temperature plunged below freezing. “Stores that open for business have an obligation to those using their parking lots, to make sure that they are in a reasonably safe condition. Its only fair to require that snow and ice conditions be safely maintained as a cost of doing business. This man was seriously injured as a result of a slip and fall on ice and justice required holding the owners and operators of this retail property responsible,” explained Phil Monier, “and we were glad to assist him in obtaining compensation for his injuries.”
